Buttons, Hems, Seams, and Mends

Whether you've lost a button or spotted a fraying hem, knowing a few hand sewing basics can save your favorite clothes. This two-part series walks beginners through the most useful hand stitches you'll actually reach for again and again. Students will leave with a completed booklet of stitches to reference. Sign up for one class or both!

Part A

We'll kick things off with the fundamentals: threading a needle, knotting your thread, and tying off your work neatly when you're done. You'll build confidence with three essential stitches and learn how to sew on three different styles of buttons, so you're ready for everything from a shirt button to a coat toggle. All materials provided.

Skills covered: running stitch, back stitch, whip stitch, button sewing (flat, shank, and toggle/novelty), and starting and finishing knots.

This class is part of a collection of hand sewing classes. Parts A and B may be taken individually or enrolled in together to create a series.

Cancellation Policy

For classes that are multiple dates or a series, cancellations must be for the entire session, rather than individual dates. Refunds described below are less credit card fees. Cancellations made more than 14 days in advance of the start of a class or session are fully refundable; cancellations that are made within 7 - 14 days prior to the start of a class or session are 50% refundable. Cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the start of a class or session are not refundable. Note that classes with less than 3 students enrolled are subject to cancellation by Estero Bay Art + Craft and will be fully refunded, including credit card fees.
