This studio-lab course invites students to investigate drawing through experimentation with traditional, contemporary, and unconventional materials. Emphasizing curiosity, play, and creative problem-solving, students will explore how different drawing materials, surfaces, and processes shape visual expression. Through hands-on small projects, collaborative exercises, and self-directed investigations, students will work with graphite, charcoal, ink, pastel, Prismacolor, and more.

Join established artist and CalPoly Art & Design faculty, Ava Werner, for this engaging, enlightening, and enjoyable materials lab. Ava brings an effective balance of professional perspective and creative wonder to her teaching that supports artistic growth and awareness. The course will expand your technical skills in drawing and material literacy, and it will be fun!

Cancellation Policy

For classes that are multiple dates or a series, cancellations must be for the entire session, rather than individual dates. Refunds described below are less credit card fees. Cancellations made more than 14 days in advance of the start of a class or session are fully refundable; cancellations that are made within 7 - 14 days prior to the start of a class or session are 50% refundable. Cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the start of a class or session are not refundable. Note that classes with less than 3 students enrolled are subject to cancellation by Estero Bay Art + Craft and will be fully refunded, including credit card fees.
