In this 2 hour workshop, we'll explore the joys of acrylics as we create a vibrant disco ball. With its faceted surface, a disco ball is the perfect subject for exploring color, light, line, and expressive mark-making. We'll use several techniques to unify our composition and build value from the ground up. This class is designed to walk you through the foundations of acrylic painting in a fun, hands-on way.

What You'll Learn:

  • How to use line work to establish perspective
  • The purpose and unifying power of an underpainting
  • Mixing custom colors and smooth gradients for a glowing, reflective effect
  • Where to place highlights, midtones, and shadows to create depth
  • How line can suggest movement and three-dimensionality on canvas
  • Balancing tight, controlled mark-making with looser, expressive brushwork

Participants will learn how to control acrylic paint's fast-drying properties to their advantage, building up layers with confidence and precision. By the end of class, you'll leave with a completed disco ball painting, a solid grasp of essential painting fundamentals, and practical techniques you can apply to any future subject.

For classes that are multiple dates or a series, cancellations must be for the entire session, rather than individual dates. Refunds described below are less credit card fees. Cancellations made more than 14 days in advance of the start of a class or session are fully refundable; cancellations that are made within 7 - 14 days prior to the start of a class or session are 50% refundable. Cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the start of a class or session are not refundable. Note that classes with less than 3 students enrolled are subject to cancellation by Estero Bay Art + Craft and will be fully refunded, including credit card fees.
